The cocoa plant was first given its botanical name by the Swedish natural scientist Carl Linnaeus, who called it Theobroma ("food of the gods") cacao (Knight, 1999).Cocoa, also called cacao, is the seed of Theobroma cacao, an evergreen tree that reaches a height of 6–12 m and grows in a limited geographical zone from approximately 20° North to 20° South of the Equator (Figure ).
